In Germany, 15.298 million window units were sold last year (1 window unit (WU) corresponds to a window measuring 1.3 x 1.3 meters or 1.69 m2), according to a recent Heinze study (commissioned by the VFF, among others). This corresponds to a growth of 3.5 percent compared to the previous year. The renovation sector contributed over proportional to the growth with 8.8 million units. In the new-build segment, the sales volume was 6.5 million WU.
With regard to the market shares of the frame materials used, there are only minor shifts compared to previous years. PVC windows had a share of 57.5 percent in 2020 (57.2 per cent in 2019). According to the study, German window manufacturers produced 12.336 million WU last year, which was around three percent higher than the previous year’s figure. Of these, 6.33 million WU were made of PVC.
For the current year, the market researchers expect a similar level as in the previous year. A growth of 1.9 percent is forecasted for 2022.
